Tumblelogging, what the…?

I was asked recently by a client what the term tumblelogging meant, although some find it a relatively new phrase it has actually been around since 2005.

Tumblelogs are a mutation of blogging and social networking, being simplified forms of blogs with minimal chat, and being very oh so to the point and direct.

Described more as posting impulsive thoughts, spontaneously fast and racey in no particular order, they give some freedom to people that want to just post a single opinion or comment with video, audio or linking as and when inspired with an idea.

Are they going to last? Every trend has followers and some regard tumblelogging as the more personal, honest approach to self expression but they do lack the definition of informative communication, business branding and editorial type posts searched for on the Internet.

As for using microblogs instead of the likes of Wordpress or similar software for building your brand image online or increasing business prospects, I would be hesitant to recommend. Social networking though, will always have an entertaining  place on the net with the way that online communication has evolved.

If you think you may be a fan of tumblelogging and want to express yourself more impulsively with the easiest amount of effort using the social networking attitude (don’t forget the word ‘fun’) do go and check out these microblogging services – tumblr, twitter and Squidoo to start the ball rolling!

thoughts, comments? let me know.

cheers until next time..
